Florida’s Classroom-Library Requirements
Is your district ready? Discover how Class-Shelf Plus helps districts manage classroom-library inventory, age and grade guidance, title review, approval workflows, and documentation through one connected system.
Florida’s Department of Education has made its expectations clear: districts must take proactive responsibility for materials available in school and classroom libraries. Waiting for a parent to discover a concern is no longer an acceptable process.
The Department’s September 23 memorandum emphasizes that materials must be appropriate for the age and development of the students who can access them. It also recommends that districts inventory classroom libraries, review higher-risk titles, document decisions, control how new materials enter collections, and report progress to district leadership.
Age and Grade Guidance That Makes a Difference
Age and grade guidance is one of CLCD’s greatest strengths. For more than 26 years, CLCD has built and refined comprehensive children’s and young adult literature data. Class-Shelf Plus applies this experience to each classroom collection, helping reviewers evaluate a title in the context of the actual grade being served.
CLCD’s Class-Shelf Plus gives districts one connected system to support this work.
